So my daughter Alice wanted me to knit her pink socks...
She asked... and asked... and asked...
I broke down and said yes, even though I am in the middle of THREE other projects (2 knit, one crochet).
She picked out the color... Lorna's Laces Sock in the Flamingo Stripe colorway.
Then I looked and looked and looked for a children's sock pattern to fit her tiny foot... and found... NOTHING! Yippee! Well, I did find the universal toe-up sock formula by Amy Swenson.
Nice! I can plug in her measurements and get a sock that fits her! Ah.. but I want to try the two at a time magic loop meathod... Enter Silver's Sock Class (an online tutorial).
Alrighty! Well, I'm taking my measurements from the universal formula, and applying the numbers to Silver's tutorial...
I'll post it here,
2 skeins Lorna's Laces Flamingo Stripe
Size 0 (2mm) 40inch circular needle
Guage 11 stitchs an inch
Size: Alice is 4 years old and wears a size 7 baby shoe, her foot is 5.5 inches long...
My short cut directions:
Cast on 28 stitches, or 8 if doing increases and you want a pointy toe...
Now blah. I'm debating either a short row toe, or one doing increases... hmmm, I think I'm going to skip back to the universal toe up and try to short row the toe... I'll get back to you on this.
Need to end up with a total of 56 stitches per sock for working the foot, however I get there!
Work in the round for 4 inches
Work heel (I like the short row heel)
make top 1 inch long (she likes ankle socks)
bind off...
I know, not much of a pattern, but maybe I'll do something fancy along the top of the foot... Will update with pictures!
